The two villages of Paduvannuru and Nettanige Mudnuru of Puttur taluk have surged to the forefront of the pre history of (Tulunadu) the Dakshina kannada Dt. The Anamalai range of the western ghats that have spread here contain a number of pre historic sites worthy of examination. My attention was drawn by the discovery of a huge cave in the village of Nettanige. In the place called pandavara kadke of the same village a passage burial out of laterite stone bed has come to light. In the Nettanige Mudnur village of puttur taluk a number of passage burials were discovered. Their location is indicated by a circular drain as the outer surface of the burials. Only in a disturbed burial at Kannada ka bayilu in padavannur village potteries of different shape and sizes were found, they are hand made and sun baked. Dr. A. Sundara after examining these potteries opines that these belong to the later half of the neolithic age, Which are the earliest examples of passage burials.
