Berunda Mottada Koosugalu – a Hoysala warrior troop

Smt. Lalithamba draws our attention to a new terminology ‘Berundana mottada Koosugalu’ which has not been concentrated by researchers. She opines the term refers to the troop of warriors under Hoysalas. She cites many inscriptions in support of her view. Comparative etymology also been furnished. Some of the individuals of that troop have also been characterized.

    • yes, they were organized. that is why they were called ‘motta’,which means Vargam (in Sanskrit) like Veera kumara Vargam. there were two bataliance one is of HIriya Bherunda’s and the oher one is youngsters. it was awell oganized well trained Military troup. which really made the Hoysala king’s army very strong.

    • ಹೌದು , ಈ ವೀರರೂ ಕೂಡ ಸುಸಂಘಟಿತರಾಗಿದ್ದುದನ್ನು ಶಾಸನಗಳು ಹೇಳಿವೆ. ಅವರಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿರಿಯ ಭೇರುಂಡರು ಹಾಗೂ ಕಿರಿಯ ಭೇರುಂಡರು ಎಂಬ ಎರಡು ಬೆಟಾಲಿಯನ್ ಇತ್ತು. ಈ ವೀರ ಪಡೆಯು ಅರಸನಾದೇಶದ ಮೇರೆಗೆ ಒಟ್ಟಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕೈಗೆತ್ತಿಕೊಳ್ಲುತ್ತಿತ್ತು!
