Under the influence of great leaders many brave women of Karnataka joined freedom movement. Several camps were organized to train them for freedom struggle. Women led many movements like no-tax campaign, burning of foreign clothes, picketing of foreign goods, salt sathyagraha, Quit India Movement to name a few. Processions in streets and lanes of villages, singing songs of love for the country and flag hoisting ceremonies influenced women to a great extent. Public meetings addressed by women leaders inspired many women to join the struggle. They were tortured, humiliated, severely punished and even sent to jail. Gowramma Venkata Ramaiah led No-Tax campaign which received greatest appreciation from Gandhiji. Thaanduru Sunandamma remained a spinster by taking an oath for the cause of freedom. Yashodhara Dasappa and Sunandamma were the prominent leaders during Shivapura Dhwaja Satyagraha. Uma Bai Kundapur and Kamala Devi Chattopadhyaya travelled throughout Karnataka  and inspired women to join the struggle. Nagamma Patil, Krishna Bai Panjekar, Leelavathi Magadi and Shakunthala Kurthakoti traveled extensively to spread the message. This article by Smt.
