    So far more than 400 inscriptions from 88 villages of Nanjangud taluk have come to light. In this article, the author has tried to throw light on the administrative divisions of early and medieval times;  highlights the importance of Ganga inscriptions in the light of the facts known from other regions of Karnataka. This paper highlights the land measuring system, crops grown, and also about the monasteries of different religions with special emphasis on the Suttur mutt.  The author traces the antiquity of the Raghavendra mutt of Nanjangud and speaks about the jaina monuments, folk gods and goddess mentioned in the records of the region. He points out the different imprecatory verses found in the epigraphs of the taluk.  He has taken the reference from the expenditure met to build the temple at Tagadur and Somanathpur inscriptions as examples to substantiate his view.

    ಶಾಪಾಶಯವು ಕೆಲವೊಮ್ಮೆ ವಾಚ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಶಾಸನ ಕಲ್ಲುಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಶ್ಲೀಲವಾಗಿ ರೇಖಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿ ದ್ದು ನಿದರ್ಶನಕ್ಕೆ ಅಣ್ಣೀಗೇರಿ, ವೆಲ್ಹ ಗೋವಾ ವಸ್ತುಸಂಗ್ರಹಾಲಯ(ಗೋವಾ), ಮುಂತಾದಡೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿರುವುದನ್ನು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಬಹುದಾಗಿದೆ.ಅವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ. ಮಲಗಿರುವ ಮಹಿಳೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಂಭೋಗಕ್ಕೆ ಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿರುವ ಕತ್ತೆಯನ್ನು ರೇಖಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.ಇದು ಅಂದಿನ ಸಮಾಜದಲ್ಲಿನ ನೈತಿಕ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳ ಅವನತಿಯನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದಲ್ಲವೇ.
