The author has given details of sculptures found at Chimmalagi. Chimmalagi is mentioned as Sirimangala by Ptolemy, the Greek traveller in the 2nd century AD. Author notes that the Vachankara Chandimarasa hails from this place. The Chamundeshwari sculpture found here is said to be one of the rarest found in north Karnataka. Badami Chalukya, Ganaga and Rashtrakutas of Malakeda have ruled over this region.
