ದಿನಾಂಕ ೩೦ನೇ ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ ೨೦೧೫, ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾರಸ್ವತ ಲೋಕದ ಕರಾಳ ದಿನ. ಡಾ. ಎಂ. ಎಂ. ಕಲಬುರ್ಗಿ, ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತ ಕುಲಪತಿಗಳು, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಧಾರವಾಡ, ಇವರು ಕಿಡಿಗೇಡಿಗಳಿಂದ ದುರಂತವಾಗಿ ಹತ್ಯೆಗೀಡಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ನಿರ್ಭೀತ, ಸಮರ್ಥ ಮತ್ತು ತೀಕ್ಷ್ಣ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯ ಹಿರಿಯ ಸಂಶೋಧಕರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಕಲಬುರ್ಗಿಯವರು ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾರಸ್ವತ ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಅಪಾರ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸಂಡೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ೧೯೯೪ ಜುಲೈ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಆಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ೮ನೇ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದ ಸರ್ವಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದರು . ಶ್ರೀ ಕಲಬುರ್ಗಿಯವರ ಅಕಾಲ ಮೃತ್ಯುವಿನಿಂದ, ನಾಡಿನ ಹಿರಿಯ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಚೇತನವೊಂದು ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾಗಿದೆ .
ಮೃತರ ಆತ್ಮಕ್ಕೆ ಚಿರಶಾಂತಿ ನೀಡಲೆಂದು ಸಮಸ್ತ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರು ಭಗವಂತನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.

It was a sad and shocking news to the members of the Karnataka Itihasa Academy to hear the death of Dr.M.M.Kalburgi,Retd Vice Chancellor of Karnataka University, in a shoot out at his residence on 30.8.2015 at Dharwar. He was the  President of the 8th Annual Conference of the academy held at Sondur in July 1994.
A senior most researcher in Inscriptions, Manuscriptology, Grammer, Folklore, History, etc,  his contributions are invaluable to the academicians, and   students. The entire academy condemns this heinous act and pray God Almighty to give peace to the departed soul.
