Sri Pendakur has dealt the evolution of Nick names from sociological and cultural point of view. He concentrates the explanation historically from Ganga period upto modern times. In his opinion Nick-names have taken their roots from abundance, nature, position, habits, psuedo names. In consequence to this, analysis of some of the names have been presented.

ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮೂಡಿಬಂದಿದೆ. ಇಂದು ತುಂಗಭದ್ರೆಯಿಂದಾಚೆಗೆ ಸೀಮಿತವಾಗಿರುವ ಈ ಅಡ್ಡ ಹೆಸರುಗಳು ಒಂದು ಕಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲೂ ಚಾಲ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿತ್ತು. ನಮ್ಮ ತಾತನ ಹೆಸರು ಗುರುಕಾರ್ ಕಾಶಿ ಮಲ್ಲಯ್ಯ ಎಂದಿತ್ತು. ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಗುರುಕಾರ್ ಕುಟುಂಬ ನಾಮವಾಗಿತ್ತೆಂದು ತೋರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅವರು ಕಾಶಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಬಂದಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಕಾಶಿಯೂ ಸೇರಿರುವಂತೆ ತೋರುತ್ತದೆ.
